アートブックを眺めていると時間が経つのがあっという間。写真、グラフィック、ペイント、様々な表現方法で埋め尽くされた紙面は、私たちを脳内トリップに導いてくれる。良質なアートブックの作り手たちはどんなことを考えてモノづくりしているのだろう。そして彼ら自身はどんな作品をセレクトして購入しているのだろう。良質なブックが集まることで知られるサンフランシスコアートブックフェアに参加した東京の出版レーベル「commune」が、アートブックフェアへの参加方法などを含めたフェアのレポート、参加しているパブリッシャーたちへのインタビューを行ってくれた。第六回目は、グラフィックデザインチームによるレーベルCatalogue Libraryを紹介する。
~ あなたが運営するパブリッシャーについて教えてください。
Catalogue Libraryは2011年にグラフィックデザインチーム Catalogue( http://www.thisiscatalogue.co.uk/) よってスタートした自主出版プラットフォームだよ。今までに小規模なzineからbookまで200タイトル以上の出版を手掛けてきたんだ。zineはアイディアやテーマをすぐさま表現することが可能で、楽しく、気軽で読者が入手しやすいものであるべきだと僕らは思うんだ。（http://cataloguelibrary.co.uk/）
– なぜArt Book Fairに参加するのですか？
Art Book Fair に参加する理由は山ほどあるよ。同業者の人たちと出会ってコミュニケーションをするにはもってこいの場だし、いつもすごく刺激をもらっているよ。Art Book Fair に携わっている皆は同じマインドセットを持っているから、世界中から一斉に同じ場所に集まり、みんなとても楽しい時間を共有していると思うよ。
– SFABF17で新しくリリースしたものはありますか？
今回は2冊、新たにリリースしたんだ。ひとつはアーティスト兼キュレーターであるDylan Krausのzineで、たまたま見つけた写真やフリー素材とアーティスト達のオリジナルの写真と作品を使ったビジュアルが爆発したような作品だよ。もう1冊は僕らの友人で、今年初めてブック(Part 1)をリリースしたJoshua GordonによるDiary Part 1.5です。このzineではPart 1では未公開だった写真と新たな写真を併せて収めているんだ。
– SFABF17でお気に入りだったブースは？
もちろんcommune Press。他には Vacancy ProjectsとSilent Sound Booksも毎年ブックフェアでのハイライトとなっているね。彼らの新作をいつも楽しみにしているんだ。
– 次のプランは何ですか？
次のプランは9月に開催されるNY Art Book Fair(NYABF)だよ。毎年NYのフェアに参加するのが大好きで、多種多様な人達がいてとても面白いんだ。NYABFでは素晴らしいアーティスト達が携わっている新しいLibrary Paper(Issue 08)をリリースする予定なんだ。これについてはと本当に楽しみで、今までで一番良いIssue になるんじゃないかなと思っているよ。他にも新しいポスターやzineをリリースする予定で、NYABFでも、過去2度のフェアで一緒に参加したMOOD NYCとブースをシェアする予定なんだ。

– Please introduce your publisher.
We are Catalogue Library, an independent publishing platform started by Catalogue in 2011. To date we’ve published over 200 titles, from small zines to magazines and books. We believe a zine should be a quick representation of an idea or theme, making it fun, easy and accessible for the consumer.
– Why do you participate in Art Book Fairs?
We participate in art book fairs for many reasons. Its been a great way of meeting and communicating with people we work with, and its always super good fun. On a social level, everyone involved is in the same mind set, so everyone has fun together and is in the same place at once, people from all over the world and country.
– What is your newest titles?
We released two new publications. One was a zine by artists and curator Dylan Kraus, it’s a visual exploration using found and complimentary imagery as well as original photographs and works by the artists. The second was Diary Part 1.5 by our friend Joshua Gordon, who released his first book (Part 1) this year. This zine is a selection of unused images from the book, as well as a couple of new ones.
– Tables you like at SF Art Book Fair 2017 ?
Commune of course. We always enjoy Vacancy Projects and Silent Sound is always a highlight at every fair. We enjoy everything they release.
– What is your next plan?
Next plan is the NYABF in September. We always love doing the NY fair, there is a huge selection of people so is always fun. We will be releasing the new Library Paper (issue 08) with some really really great artists involved. We’re super excited about it, it could be our best issue yet. We will also be releasing a bunch of new posters and zines, and of course will be sharing the booth with MOOD NYC as we have done for the past two fairs.
