“Roman” is a first photographic exhibition held individually by YURI HORIE.
The exhibition is an unconventional space where visitors can experience 浪漫 “Roman” beyond the framework of photographs, in various booths representing the theme of light, darkness, and shrines. (浪漫 “Roman” is a Japanese word derived from English, meaning “romance” or “romantic”.)
The photographs capture moments where the photographer felt attracted and found the appeal of “漢の浪漫” (A man’s “Roman”) while travelling throughout Japan and meeting various unique people.
“When I hear the words ‘Japanese tradition and culture’, all that comes to mind are very serious and formal. But is that all there is to it? ‘Deco-tora’ (decorated trucks), coming of age ceremonies, tattoos, festivals, Kabukicho nightlife … here, you will find the one and only ‘Roman’, inherited and transformed. Throughout the exhibition, I hope the ‘Roman’ on display could bring the simple joy of excitement and curiosity.”
