Gallery-1は、2022年5月13日(金)から5月29日(日)まで、エド・オリバーとジェレミー・ ベンケムンのコラボレーションから生まれたビデオインスタレーション「神経衰弱楽園」 展を開催。
「神経衰弱楽園」は、これまでの両作家の作品とは異なり、3本のビデオで構成されている。これらのビデオは、日常生活のパラドックス、プライベートとパブリックの間を常に妥協する我々の能力の限界、そしてその前に主人公が避けられない精神的な崩壊を探求している。
この展覧会は、シンプルな問いを投げかけている。「自分の周りが崩壊していく世界の 中で、どうやって生き続けるのか?」 皮肉、喜劇、悲劇を織り交ぜながら、ただ生き残るために周囲の混乱にもかかわらず、目の前の存在に集中する人間の必要性に賛辞を贈るもの。私たちは、どこまで壊れずに耐えられるのだろうか? 私たちの不浸透性の限界はどこにあるのか?
Gallery -1 will present from May 13 to 29, 2022 the exhibition “Nervous Breakdown Paradise”, a video installation supported by photographs born from the collaboration between Edo Oliver and Jérémy Benkemoun, filmed by Asumi Sako.
Nervous Breakdown Paradise is a departure from both artists previous body of work and consists of three videos. These videos explore the paradox of daily life, the limits to our ability to constantly negotiate between private and public, and the inevitable mental breakdown of the protagonist before it all.
The exhibition asks a simple question: “how do you keep on living in a world as it collapses around you?” Mixing irony, comedy and tragedy, it is a tribute to the human need to focus on our immediate existence, in-spite of the chaos around us in order to simply survive. How much are we expected to endure without breaking? What are the limits to our impermeability?

フランス・カンヌ出身。現在は東京を拠点に活動を行なっている。世の中の当たり前に“違和感”を問いかける雑誌『 IWAKAN』編集者。クィアアーティストとして、アイデンティティーやセクシュアリティを問う活動や作品を多数発表し、常に社会とクリエイティブの関係を模索し続けている。
