―先日、ソランジュのカヴァー（“Some Things Seem To Never Fucking Work”）が公開されて話題になりましたけど、今コラボレーションしたいアーティストとかいますか？
KINDNESS「そうだね。ケンドリックはこれからもコラボレートしていきたいな（※今回の来日の数日前にケンドリック・ラマーの“Institutionalized”のリミックスが公開された）」
―ニュー・アルバムの『トゥ・ピンプ・ア・バタフライ』はどうでした？
KINDNESS「うん、すごくよかったよね」
―他にコラボレートしてみたいアーティストは？
KINDNESS「ジェイ・ポールとか……ボックボックとか」
―そう言えば、今回の『アザーネス』にはジャム＆ルイスも参加してるって話が事前にありましたけど、その音源って今後発表する予定はあるんですか？
KINDNESS「そうだね。実際はジャム＆ルイスだけじゃなくてロビンも一緒だったんだ。だから４人だよね。まあ、いつか完成させられるとは思うけど」
―じゃあ、作業は今でも続いてるんですか？
KINDNESS「うん、今も作業中なんだ」
―ちなみに、日本の音楽シーンもチェックされていて、たとえばJポップとかボーカロイドものも結構好きでよく聴かれているそうですけど。
KINDNESS「うん」
―最近のアーティストで気になるものはありましたか？
KINDNESS「今のアーティストで？ そうだなあ……いろんな人から曲を送ってもらうんだけど、とにかく大量で……だから、聴いてはいるんだけど名前までは覚えてないんだ。でも、今回、ラッキー・テープスと共演できてすごくよかったと思ってる。今言ったラッキー・テープスとか、同じエネルギーだったり、ファンキーな感覚を共有してる日本人アーティストの良い例だよね」
―やっぱり、日本の音楽って独特だと思いますか？
KINDNESS「そうだね。日本の音楽って、たぶん日本のカルチャーと一緒で……西洋的なスタイルを取り入れてはいるんだけど、そこに日本独自のオリジナルな感覚があって、そこにきっと西洋人は惹かれるんだろうね」
―もしかしたら今後、カインドネスがボーカロイドを使って音楽を作る、なんて可能性もあるんでしょうかね。
KINDNESS「うーん……もしかして。ただ、使いこなせるようになるまで、すごく大変なのかなって。ただ、YouTubeで小学生にボーカロイドの使い方を教えてる映像を観たことがあって。７歳の子に出来るなら自分にも出来るんじゃないかって」
―楽しみにしてます（笑）。ところで、『アザーネス』のジャケットにはご自身の顔写真が使われていますよね。これが実に、何とも言えない表情をされているわけですけど、あれって――。
KINDNESS「ああ、あれ（笑）。えーっと……あのとき実は電話をかけてたんだよ」
―へー。
KINDNESS「うん、そう（笑）」
―知り合いとか友人とか？
KINDNESS「ものすごい退屈な話をしてる最中だったんだ（笑）」
―仕事関係の話？
KINDNESS「そう（笑）」
―どんだけ退屈な話だったんでしょうかね（笑）。
KINDNESS「これは誰にも言っちゃダメだよ」
―電話中だったっていう話を言うのはアリ？
KINDNESS「うん、まあ……でも、退屈な話をしてたってところはカットしといて（笑）」
―でも、日本語だからバレないかと。
KINDNESS「それだったら都合がいいね（笑）」
– This year, many people were talking about your Solange cover. Are there any other artists you’d like to collaborate with in near future?
KINDNESS “Yeah. I still wants to work with Kendrick. ”
– And?
KINDNESS “Hmm.. Jai Paul, and Bok Bok.”
– Have you listened to Kendrick’s album yet?
KINDNESS “Yeah. I really like it. ”
– There was a rumor that you were collaborating with Jam & Lewis for one song from the album. Do you have any plan to release the song in the future?
KINDNESS “Yeah. The work with Jam & Lewis is also with Robyn. It’s four of us together. I’m sure one day I’ll be finished. ”
– So are you still working on the song?
KINDNESS “Yes. ”
– I’ve heard that you’re interested in Japanese music scene and you listen to J-Pop sometimes. Is there any artist you’re paying attentions to now?
KINDNESS “A lot of things I hear are what people send me to listen to. It’s just too much and I can’t remember the names. But I’m happy we have this project, Lucky Tapes playing with us tonight. That’s the example of Japanese music which maybe has a similar energy or funkiness. ”
– Do you think Japanese music is unique?
KINDNESS “Well, I think so. Japanese is like Japanese culture. Even when it comes close to Western style, it always has something unique or different. I think it’s very attractive to Western audience. ”
– Would you like to make music with VOCALOID someday?
KINDNESS “Hahaha. Hmm…maybe. But it’s a whole new technology to learn first. But I watched a YouTube video which someone teaching school children to use VOCALOID. So if 7-year-old kids can do, maybe I can do it, too. ”
– Hahaha. I’m sure you can. Last time I talked to you, you were talking about the remix offer from Shintaro Sakamoto.
KINDNESS “Yeah. But I had to say no because I didn’t have enough time for it. ”
– Do you think there’s something common between your music and his music? “Otherness” reminded me of his music when I was listening to it.
KINDNESS “Sure. What’s more interesting about part of music culture is how it’s globalized now. So people in Tokyo maybe listen to the same thing as people in Chicago or Paris. We can all be influenced by very similar things. So yeah, you can have something in common with people from completely different culture because it’s still the same things you like. ”
-All right, this is the last question. There’s the picture of your face on the album cover. It looks you’re thinking about something on this photo. What were you actually thinking during the shoot?
KINDNESS “(Laughs) I was actually on the phone. ”
– Are you talking with your friends?
KINDNESS “I was listening to very boring phone conversation. (Laughs) ”
– Haha. Okay. Thanks so much for today.
KINDNESS “Thank you!”
